Sevan began his career at Alexander Spencer at the age of 20, starting as a graduate accountant. Over the years, he progressed through every stage: accountant, manager, partner, and eventually, managing partner. His growth wasn't linear; it was shaped by valuable external experiences and a powerful sense of purpose.
After spending a few years contracting for multiple accounting firms and learning how different systems and cultures operated, Sevan received a call that would ultimately bring him back to Alexander Spencer. Leo, a former business partner at the firm, reached out and asked him to return in a contract role. At the time, Alexander Spencer was one of eight clients he was working with, but something about the culture and direction of the firm reignited his passion.
“When I came back, everything had changed. The office was modern, the team had nearly doubled, and the energy was different. I fell in love with the company all over again,” Sevan shares.
Rejoining the firm with a new mindset, Sevan was no longer just an accountant; he was a leader ready to make an impact. He negotiated his return as a partner, bringing with him a strong client base and a vision for growth. Today, he leads the management group and plays a pivotal role in shaping the firm’s future.
Sevan's background has greatly influenced his values. Of Armenian descent, born and raised in Istanbul, he learned the importance of education and perseverance from his parents. His father, who worked in a factory, once told him, “You have two choices: work for someone else, or use your brain, study hard, and build a better future.” That moment set Sevan on his lifelong path in accountin
His passion lies not only in the technical aspects of the profession but in understanding people. “Every business owner has a story,” Sevan says. “Sometimes you sit down to talk tax or business strategy, but you spend half the time just listening to their journey, and that’s when real trust is built.”
This human-centric approach has helped Sevan forge lasting relationships with his clients and colleagues alike. He believes that behind every balance sheet is a story worth listening to, and it’s through understanding those stories that true advisory work happens.
